Owner & Lead Laser Specialist

I know first-hand how much unwanted hair can affect the way you feel about yourself.

I was around 14 when I first became really conscious of the dark, thick hair on my stomach. I had what people often call a “snail trail” and I hated getting my stomach out because, to me, it made me feel masculine. I would tweeze it, wax it, pick at it and try everything I could to hide it, but then I would be left with spots, irritation and marks instead. It became a vicious cycle: removing the hair because I was embarrassed by it, then feeling embarrassed by the skin I was left with afterwards.

My bikini line was much the same. Waxing was far too painful for me to keep up with, so shaving became my only real option- along with the shaving rash, irritation and that feeling of never quite having the smooth skin I wanted.

When I eventually experienced laser hair removal, 10 years later with the same problems it genuinely changed how I felt in my own skin.

For the first time, I could go on holiday without thinking about when I needed to shave, worrying about razor rash or trying to hide areas I felt self-conscious about. My skin looked smoother, clearer and more even. I stopped thinking about the hair all the time. That freedom is one of the biggest reasons I became so passionate about giving the same feeling to other people.

Back then, laser hair removal was very different to the industry we know today. Proper laser clinics were few and far between and IPL was much more common. I was already working within the beauty industry and knew that if I was ever going to take my business in this direction, I wanted to understand the technology properly and invest in equipment I genuinely believed in.

There simply wasn’t the kind of solid-state laser technology locally that I wanted to be treated with, so I researched clinics, researched the machines they were using and travelled around two hours for my own appointments.

At the time, moving into laser felt like a huge leap.

I had recently lost my grandad and had been left inheritance. Rather than simply spending that money, I wanted to use it to build something for my future. Laser hair removal wasn’t yet the huge industry it is now, so investing that money into specialist equipment and education genuinely felt like a risk.

But I knew one thing: if I was going to do it, I wanted to do it properly.

Before asking clients to invest their money and trust in me, I wanted to experience the treatment myself, see the results for myself and know that the technology I was eventually going to provide was something I completely believed in.

In 2014, I travelled to London to complete my VTCT Level 4 in Laser and Light. At the time, it was an intensive six-month course and the deeper I went into the science, the more fascinated I became.

I loved understanding what was actually happening beneath the surface of the skin, the interaction between laser energy, melanin, hair follicles and tissue, but particularly the biology behind hair growth itself.

The endocrine system became a genuine area of fascination for me. I found myself studying beyond what I needed for my assignments because I wanted to understand why hormones can change our hair, our skin and so much of our body.

That knowledge has shaped the way I treat clients today and, over the years, hormonal and excessive hair growth has naturally become one of the areas I specialise in.

Hirsutism can be incredibly isolating.

For every woman who reaches out to me about excessive facial or body hair, I know there are ten more sitting at home wondering whether they’re the only one.

They’re not.

It is one of the most common things I treat.

I’ve met women who have spent years plucking their chin every morning, women planning their lives around when they can shave, people struggling with painful ingrown hairs and pigmentation, and transgender clients for whom removing facial or body hair can be an incredibly important part of feeling comfortable in their identity.

Whatever brings someone through my door, I want them to feel three things very quickly:

Seen. Heard. Understood.

There is very little you could show me that I haven’t seen before.

Clients apologise for their hair, their bodies, scars, pigmentation, periods, intimate areas, how nervous they are and even for finding the treatment uncomfortable.

You don’t need to apologise for any of it.

Yes, I’m there to perform a clinical treatment, but I’m also a very real person. I’ll laugh with you, I’ll listen to you and there have absolutely been occasions where I’ve cried with clients too.

Laser can be surprisingly personal.

A treatment journey might begin with unwanted hair, but over the months and years I’ve watched clients fall in love, get married, have babies, lose babies, change careers, buy houses, go through break-ups, lose loved ones and rebuild their confidence.

You become a small part of people’s lives, often standing quietly in the background while their world changes around them.

That is something I never take for granted.

It is also one of the reasons Remedi has remained so focused on consistency.

As the clinic grew, I eventually reached the point where I physically couldn’t treat everybody myself, and bringing Madi into the business was a huge decision for me. Training someone to work to the same standards I had spent years developing required an enormous amount of trust and investment.

We work closely together, continually discuss our clients and their treatment plans, and make sure that progression, skin response and results are being monitored consistently.

Because laser should never be about simply pointing a machine at somebody and firing.

A good laser technician needs to understand skin, hair biology, treatment intervals, hormonal influences, clinical endpoints and how to adapt treatment safely from one person to another. Just as importantly, they need to know when not to treat.

I would much rather tell somebody that laser isn’t right for them than take their money knowing I am unlikely to produce the result they are hoping for.

That integrity is incredibly important to me.

Unfortunately, as laser hair removal became more popular, the industry changed very quickly. Machines became easier to buy, short training courses appeared everywhere and huge marketing campaigns began convincing both practitioners and consumers that every device and every treatment was essentially the same.

They aren’t.

This is ultimately why education became another important part of my career. I wanted other practitioners to understand laser beyond simply learning which buttons to press. When somebody is working with powerful technology on another person’s skin, knowledge matters.

I am obsessive about results because your results are quite literally my reputation.

Laser hair removal isn’t a treatment where I expect you to visit me every month forever. The whole point is that eventually you don’t need me anymore. Some clients finish their initial treatment plan and I may only see them once a year- or even once every few years.

So Remedi has grown largely through people leaving the clinic happy enough to tell someone else about their experience.

And that means everything to me.

We regularly receive cards, flowers, chocolates and messages from clients telling us what their results have meant to them. I’ve seen people start dating because they finally have the confidence to. I’ve watched clients wear clothes they had avoided for years and go on holiday without worrying about shaving, hiding their skin or planning around unwanted hair.

Those moments never become ordinary to me.

Remedi has grown into something I am incredibly proud of, but what matters most isn’t simply the name above the door.

It’s what that name represents.

I want people to know that when they come to Remedi they will receive knowledgeable, honest treatment, using technology I genuinely believe in. Their treatment plan will be tailored to them, their concerns will be taken seriously, and they will never feel like just another appointment on the diary.

When you invest your time, money and trust in me, I feel a responsibility to invest just as much into you.

My goal is that you walk into your consultation perhaps feeling nervous or unsure and walk back out excited, reassured and completely confident that you’ve made the right decision.

Because ultimately, this has never just been about removing hair.

It’s about helping somebody stop thinking about it.
